New Delta Livery Pics

Want a glimpse at what appears to be the new Delta Air Lines‘ livery?

Here you go. No more “drapes” on the tail, just as CEO Gerry Grinstein promised recently. The widget is also alive and well.

These are apparently from a recent Delta Air Lines’ television commercial shoot.

Foto Friday

Now, here is one fine looking establishment.

Mystery-1

And of course, it’s here because I am told this fine looking Airport Inn is frequented heavily by, what else? Airline employees.

This week’s Foto Friday detective question is this — where is this fine establishment located?

PBB Posted

Don’t fall over yourselves trying to get in the door, but this week’s “Easter Bunny” special edition of PlaneBusiness Banter is now posted.

Well, it’s not actually an “Easter Bunny” special edition. More like a normal issue. But I thought that sounded rather festive, didn’t you?

Subscribers can access this week’s issue here.

PBB Posting Update

We will be out tonight, but with a bit of rewriting now on tap for page one, we may be a bit late. But we’ll be out. I’ll be back to let subscribers know when this week’s issue is ready for perusal.

Weird News of the Day

Worldlogo

After spending a fair amount of time talking in today’s PBB about the financial shenanigans going on at World Airways Holdings, the news just came over the wire that Global Aero Logistics Inc., is going to purchase World.

World, North American and ATA will then operate independently under the holding company structure.

MatlinPatterson Global Opportunities Partners II is the majority shareholder of Global Aero Logistics Inc., which already owns ATA Airlines.

Under the terms of the agreement, World Air Holdings shareholders will receive $12.50 in cash for each share of World Air Holdings common stock they own, representing a premium of 56 percent over the company’s average closing price for the 30 trading days prior to World’s announcement on Sept. 5, 2006 of the formation of a special committee of the board to explore strategic alternatives to enhance shareholder value.

interesting. Because if they had calculated the price based on the last 30 trading days, the price would be higher.

Shaking my head. I have to think about this one.

Crude Oil Price Update

While Iran decided to release the 15 British soldiers they had taken into custody today — the price of oil did not drop back as much as some might have liked.

The escalating tensions surrounding this incident had been cited as one of the main reasons the price of oil had continued to pick up ground last week.

The price of a barrel of crude closed today at 64.38 — down only 26 cents.

Last time I filled up a tank of gas in Phoenix before I returned Monday to the Worldwide Headquarters? It was $3.17 a gallon. (Yes, unfortunately it was premium.)

Then again, the news concerning the British sailors did come in late today. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

United and bmi To Join Forces?

Bmi

Given the rumors last week swirling about British Airways making an offer for British airline bmi — today’ s news that United Airlines and bmi are seeking a potential alliance is quite interesting.

So why is bmi suddenly such a hot commodity? It controls 12% of the gates at London’s Heathrow Airport.

In a request filed with the DOT Monday, the airlines seek permission to create an alliance starting next March.

The reason such a deal can even be considered, of course, is because of the recent US/EU “open skies” deal.

Boeing 787 Blows Past 500 Order Mark

Boeing officials reported Tuesday that the PlaneMaker now has 514 orders for its new 787 Dreamliner.

Company officials said Tuesday that Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) ordered five more of the planes and said that additional orders from “unidentified customers” pushed the total past 500. JAL has now ordered 35 of the 787s.

Congrats to the Lady Vols

Candaceparker

Congratulations to Pat Summitt and her Tennessee Lady Vols. Last night they beat a plucky Rutgers team, 59-46, to win the Women’s NCAA Basketball Championship.

This was Pat’s 7th NCAA Championship.

While all eyes were on Tennessee’s Candace Parker (shown here), the first woman to dunk a basketball in an NCAA game, the offensive rebounds are what won this game — and on that score, Nicky Anosike took the honors hauling down 16 offensive rebounds.

Meanwhile, Shannon Bobbitt proved why Tennessee was right when it awarded the first full scholarship ever awarded to a 5 foot 2 player to her.

She is one fun player to watch. Low to the ground to begin with, she is superb at keeping the ball away from the opponents, while on the defensive side, she pesters them like a maddened low-flying bee — poking her hands behind them, around them, forcing turnovers.

She also scored 13 points.

Good to see Pat win another one. For you folks in Knoxville — party on!

Oh and yes, we know. The Florida Gators won Monday night. As an avid Southeast Conference supporter — I should mention that, I suppose. It’s just that long-standing thing I have with longtime Florida football coach Steve Spurrier that keeps me from wishing the male Gators an unqualified “Boo Yah.”

If you love a Southeastern Conference team (other than Florida), you’ll understand. 🙂
